Located in Tainan, this 142-square-meter residence is a masterclass in merging strict health-conscious engineering with the warmth of classic American interior design. The project involved combining two separate apartment units to create a spacious four-bedroom home for a family of four. The primary design challenge was the family's severe allergies to dust and mites. Consequently, the brief demanded a "textile-free" environment without sacrificing the cozy aesthetic typical of American country style.
To solve this, we eliminated all fabric curtains, replacing them with custom wooden shutters that offer superior light control while preventing dust accumulation. In lieu of carpets or hardwood that might trap allergens, we utilized imported Spanish wood-grain tiles throughout the living areas and bedrooms. These tiles provide the visual warmth of timber but are hypoallergenic and easy to clean. Invisible engineering plays a massive role here; the lowered ceilings conceal a whole-house air purification and dehumidification system, ensuring the air remains pristine despite Tainan’s humidity.
Visually, the home is defined by extensive wainscoting (linear boards) and a sophisticated color palette. The heart of the home is the expansive kitchen, finished in a striking slate blue with Bosch appliances, serving as the central hub for cooking and children's homework. The living room defies convention by eschewing a television for a projector system, encouraging family interaction. A multi-room audio system is integrated into the ceiling—extending even to the bathroom—allowing music to flow seamlessly through every space.
The bedrooms are highly personalized: the daughter’s room features a whimsical hot air balloon motif, while the son’s room includes a world map mural to inspire a global perspective. The entrance foyer features a unique "wine-rack" style latticework for ventilation and storage, set against distressed tiles that evoke a vintage charm. This project proves that a medical-grade healthy environment need not look clinical; it can be vibrant, textural, and deeply welcoming.

Here is a more technical entry tailored for a professional jury, focusing on spatial reconfiguration, material specification, and environmental systems.
