2024 RE - CHIAY ART ACTION IN COUNTRYSIDE

The residents of Chiayi County have long been accustomed to this land, yet they have seldom reexamined its value through an aesthetic lens. In 2022, the government launched the "RE - CHIAY ART ACTION IN COUNTRYSIDE" to inspire locals to rediscover their homes through art. The 2024 edition of the art action spanned five townships—Shuishang, Taibao, Lukao, Yizhu, and Budai—and featured 17 installation artworks along with a photography exhibition. Utilizing diverse forms such as light and shadow, weaving, and sculpture, the initiative transformed art from mere decoration into a lyrical expression of the land, preserving local memory and embedding beauty into everyday life. The participation of people across all age groups helped foster a deep sense of belonging.

The most distinctive feature of the art action was its emphasis on community cohesion. Most of the artworks were co-created by residents and artists rather than produced solely by professional artists because only those who live here can truly capture the unique charm of their hometown. In 2024, its third year, the project left a profound cultural imprint on Chiayi and has enabled the stories of this land to be heard by a wider audience through art.
