Located in Chengdu, China, this project is a contemporary live-work space for a couple—an architect and a graphic artist—who spend most of their time working from home. Guided by the philosophy of turning the home into a "canvas for living", this project seeks to embody the beauty and inclusiveness of design through refined details, while creating a living space that embraces versatility—one that gently accommodates the evolving lifestyles of its residents over time.

Inspired by the essence of essentialism, this project adheres to the principles of simplicity and functionality without compromising on detail. Precise geometric relationships, aligned nodes, custom wall panels, GLT wood-steel vertical pillars, and flush baseboards and door frames showcase a restrained, detail-oriented visual language. The existing partition wall between the study room and living room has been demolished to offer an open floor plan that is interconnected by a central corridor, forming a more dynamic and efficient workflow and living circulation. Without excessive decoration, this project offers the occupants a flexible layout and an inclusive environment, allowing them to explore and create many of their own works from design representations to visual arts in the space.

Since the owners are expected to spend most of their time indoors, this project incorporates multi-level light shading and insulated laminated glass, combined with blinds and sheer curtains to achieve passive energy savings, reducing heat transfer while introducing soft light and natural ventilation. Many vegetated zones are introduced within this open plan, bringing a sense of the outdoors inside. The overall space delivers a restrained yet elegant aesthetic, maximizing space efficiency and future adaptability. It tells the story of its inhabitants, achieving a long-term balance between living and working.
