About The Entry

Does a library’s red envelope have to feature a book? This design departs from literal imagery to explore the "body experience" of a library—the physical act of picking, decoding, and internalizing knowledge. It transforms the traditional Lunar New Year gift into a sophisticated vessel for cultural and intellectual heritage.

The visual core is a 4x4 matrix of sixteen units. This "double-eight" grid subtly invokes the auspicious number 88, a homophone for "prospering"(發發; fa fa) in Taiwanese culture. Using a variety of specialized metallic foils, the design creates a shimmering texture that evokes brilliance and abundance—symbolizing both material wealth and the "wealth of the mind."

The design invites viewers to engage in "active reading." By rearranging the characters and letters within the grid, multiple hidden blessings emerge: "Read Immediately," "Instant Wealth," and "Happy Reading." While modern typography integrates "TYPL" (Taoyuan Public Library), those familiar with ancient Seal Script will discover the idiom "Instant Success." This linguistic puzzle mirrors the transformation of the reading experience, adding a layer of interactive playfulness.

At the base, Braille for "Happy New Year" ensures functional accessibility. This inclusion reinforces the project’s central philosophy: "The more you know, the more you can read." By bridging ancient scripts, English letters, and tactile language, this piece celebrates the universal joy of learning and the boundless possibilities of knowledge.
