Aging and retirement are inevitable life stages, yet they are often reduced to fixed social labels. Open Chapter challenges this narrow narrative by reframing retirement not as an ending, but as a turning point. The project reframes retirement not as an ending, but as a turning point, a space for agency, reinvention, and self-authorship.

The concept begins with “tearing off labels,” where tearing is not an act of resistance, but an act of initiative. This idea informs a flexible visual identity system built on free-form compositions, layered graphics, and non-linear structures, expressing life as an unfolding chapter rather than a predefined path. The identity extends across a comprehensive brand system, including poster series, banners, participatory materials, and merchandise, designed to support a public-facing cultural event.

Through community markets, interactive games, and immersive experiences, the project transforms reflection into engagement, inviting participants of all ages to reimagine life’s next chapter. Grounded in its first pilot in Guangzhou, China, Open Chapter demonstrates how branding can function not only as a communication tool, but as a scalable framework for social dialogue and cultural activation.
