Spanning 17 days at New Taipei Metropolitan Park, the 2026 New Taipei Lantern Festival redefined public celebratory spaces by merging traditional craftsmanship with multi-dimensional technology. The event transformed the expansive venue into a massive, living storybook, inviting visitors to step into a glowing narrative featuring 16 themed zones and nearly 100 bespoke lantern installations.
Centered on the theme “Luminous Gallop • New Taipei Hi-Light,” the festival unfolded as an immersive experience. By following a young foal’s journey from birth to its eventual flight beyond boundaries, the narrative arc served as a powerful metaphor for the universal pursuit of dreams and the resilient spirit of the city.
The centerpiece was a 15-meter-tall kinetic Pegasus in vibrant red and gold, blending traditional motifs with modern engineering. The experience was elevated through a synchronized multisensory show, featuring five-axis dynamic mechanics that brought the creature to life through the fluid movement of its head, mane, forelimbs, hind limbs, and tail. By integrating these precise mechanical motions with LED animations, theatrical lighting, lasers, and atmospheric fog, the show breathed life into the story's protagonist.
The sixteen themed areas extended the narrative into an immersive landscape where visitors became part of the story through interactive displays and engaging activities. This deep connection between audience and space drove immense social impact, drawing a record-breaking 6.22 million attendees.
