A Place to Linger

This residence is conceived around the central idea of staying at home as a meaningful experience. It responds to the residents’ wish to enjoy a sense of calm and ease—similar to that of a café—even without leaving the house. Rather than replicating a specific style, the design deconstructs the essence of such spaces: soft natural light, multiple ways of occupying space, and areas that are not rigidly defined by a single function.

The living room, dining area, and window-side platform are integrated into a continuous and open living landscape, allowing reading, dining, working, and resting to coexist naturally. The window platform functions as seating, storage, and a play area, accommodating the changing needs of family members at different stages of life. In this way, the space evolves over time instead of being fixed by a one-time configuration.

Material choices focus on warm wood tones, low-saturation surfaces, and an honest expression of structure. Exposed ceiling elements and original structural proportions are intentionally retained, with careful attention to scale and detailing to reduce visual noise and unnecessary construction. This approach minimizes material consumption while expressing a restrained and sustainable design attitude.

Rather than pursuing immediate visual impact, the project emphasizes long-term comfort and emotional connection. The home is envisioned as a vessel that carries everyday life, relationships, and the rhythms of living—offering a contemporary residential proposal grounded in authenticity, adaptability, and lived experience.
