Glizee Hotel, an upscale downtown Shanghai boutique undergoing renovation, anchors its design in liuli (colored glaze) - a choice inspired by our partner, who regards it as a "spiritual sanctuary." Beyond displaying liuli as an aesthetic element, we integrate its cultural legacy (one of China’s Five Traditional Treasures and a sacred gem in Buddhism) and craftsmanship into the interiors—honoring intangible cultural heritage (ICH) while crafting a slow-living sanctuary.
Adopting a Neo-Chinese style, the hotel uses calm deep tones, warm wood hues, and liuli’s unique blue to blend tradition with modernity. Its lobby boasts key highlights: flat-roofed grilles enhance spatial breadth and authentic Chinese charm; the 3-meter-tall teardrop-shaped blue liuli chandelier, inspired by traditional liuli-crafting techniques, features a base that showcases the "hotel’s signature treasure": exquisite liuli sculptures. The entrance wall, adorned with liuli exhibits and embossed Chinese characters, invites guests to explore its cultural stories.
The layout reinforces the slow-lifestyle concept: the L-shaped wooden reception desk calms guests instantly. Tea lounges on the left (adorned with freehand landscape art) and relaxation areas on the right allow guests to savor tea, admire liuli, engage with traditional culture, and find peace amid the city’s hustle. Guests can also pause for photos to share on social media, turning their stay into a shareable cultural experience. Rooted in profound respect for tradition and mindful living, this space invites guests to linger, listen to the echoes of millennia-old culture, and embrace inner tranquility.
