Located in Jiaxing’s historic Xiuzhou District and surrounded by distinctive waterfront resources, the project creates a discreetly luxurious residential environment that blends the charm of Jiangnan water towns with modern high-end living. The landscape strategy organizes the site from the urban interface to internal gardens, guided by the regional cultural context of Muqiao Port.

Drawing inspiration from the “Ancient Jade” culture of the Neolithic Majiabang period, the design integrates the warmth, elegance, and symbolism of jade into contemporary life. Jade-related motifs such as circles and dragon-scale patterns, together with Eastern-inspired colors like white jade, blue-green, and topaz, establish an aesthetic that unites cultural heritage with modern artistic expression. The conceptual framework of “diverting water, carving jade, and becoming jade” shapes the spatial rhythm, translating jade culture into landscape form.

The spatial structure follows the narrative system of “One Belt, Nine Realms, and Six Alleys,” where each node expresses a specific cultural meaning. Key scenes include the north entrance symbolizing jade’s brightness, a water courtyard that conveys vitality through the theme of “Jade Moistens the Mountain,” and a children’s zone inspired by the mythological “Jade Rabbit.” Artistic and ecological qualities are intertwined through interactive spaces, such as a sunken courtyard that uses height differences, waterfalls, and layered planting to create multi-dimensional experiences, and a central garden inspired by poetic imagery of lotus leaves in a jade pond.

Key technical challenges include height differences between the sunken courtyard and the ground level, addressed through artistic staircases, cascading water, and multi-level terraces that transform elevation shifts into experiential opportunities. Fire safety routes are visually softened through material transitions and planting, ensuring that functional elements harmonize with the landscape.

The project emphasizes sustainability by prioritizing native plants, forming stable ecological communities with seasonal interest, and incorporating smart irrigation and sponge-city strategies. Automatic monitoring, permeable paving, and integrated water systems enhance ecological performance while improving the site’s microclimate.
