The Matsu Biennial, first held in 2022, is Taiwan’s first decade-long art initiative. With social design at its core, the Biennial regards artistic curation as a practical tool for public communication, cultural governance, and local revitalization. More than a mere exhibition, it is a long-term cultural movement that brings together residents, schools, researchers, and artists to advance Matsu’s sustainable development and cultural regeneration.

Every Mesh Feeds One Person is one of the key curatorial projects of the 2025 Biennial. Taking the traditional pha-jiu fishing method as its starting point, it revisits the golden era of Matsu’s fishing culture and reinterprets the intertwined relationships between people and the sea, between tradition and modernity, and between labor and art. Through creativity and co-creation, the project reflects how local culture evolves into a resilient, living network that continues to transform and grow.

The exhibition features three major works: Gan Ming-Yuan’s bamboo installation Pha-jiu: Lattice Light, Bamboo Shadows, Chee Wai-Loong’s kinetic wind-powered sculpture Fishing Dream, and Kang Ya-Chu’s community co-creation Unraveling the Path of Return. Together, they embody the Matsu people’s wisdom of coexistence with the sea, their creativity, and the communal spirit that connects past and future through art.
