This project is an interior design experiment for a Chinese restaurant, guided by the core concept of “the interpretation of wood.” The design takes material as its narrative medium, exploring the tactile, structural, and luminous qualities of wood to create a space that is pure, restrained, and timeless. It seeks to transcend surface aesthetics, returning instead to the spiritual and temporal essence of materiality.

The space eliminates excessive decoration, establishing clear spatial order through systematic wooden surfaces. Wood extends across walls, ceilings, and furnishings, forming a cohesive material language. Its warmth and natural reflectivity reveal subtle depth as light changes, allowing the atmosphere to flow quietly and evolve within restraint.

Light becomes the key to amplifying material expression. Gentle indirect illumination and precise reflections construct an ambiance that balances depth and warmth. Light is not a supplement but an extension of material life, enabling the grain and color of wood to be rediscovered from multiple perspectives.

The design does not simply pursue visual comfort but emphasizes rational control and refined proportion, allowing the inherent character of wood to define the space. With purity as its spiritual core, the restaurant achieves harmony among material, light, and atmosphere—expressing a quiet strength rooted in contemporary Eastern aesthetics.
