Located in Taichung’s Xitun District, the home for an extended family faced structural challenges, including large beams cutting across the living and dining areas. The design centers on the concept of “simplicity, calmness, and transparency,” transforming the intrusive beam into the beginning of a graceful curved ceiling that softens visual impact and guides circulation.
The social area adopts a warm white palette to reflect brightness, while the study, tailored to the father’s taste, transitions into deeper hues. The kitchen—highly valued by the mother—features translucent sliding doors that contain cooking fumes yet preserve visual connection, achieving a delicate balance between privacy and interaction in everyday life.
The highlight of the project lies in using curvilinear forms to integrate structure and aesthetics. The large beam in the living room transforms seamlessly into a curved television wall and ceiling, allowing lines to flow naturally between horizontal and vertical planes. The curved transition softens edges and extends visual depth. From the entryway to the living area, a storage wall was embedded into the design, using linear division and rounded edges to conceal ample storage behind a unified facade.
The oversized study was reduced in scale and connected to the dining-kitchen area through glass sliding doors, drawing natural light from the windows into the heart of the home. Textured glass provides privacy while maintaining depth and continuity.
In the master bedroom, the television wall serves as a divider that defines a compact dressing area and display cabinet. Daylight filters through the window beside a small island counter, adding ritual to daily routines. Behind the sofa, hand-applied artisanal paint produces painterly textures that shift with sunlight—like hanging an unframed artwork at the center of family life.
