SunS Living Gallery, located in a century-old quadrangle courtyard at No. 40 Baofang Hutong in Beijing, embraces the core philosophy of "living with art" to explore the symbiosis between tradition and modernity. In the 500㎡ space renovation, the design team preserved the historic architectural fabric while integrating steel-structured broussonetia papyrifera elements to create a new spatial experience. Twelve strategically placed windows channel natural light, harmonizing with materials like concrete terrazzo, aged elm wood, artistic paint, and the innovative "Ink Tile" material to craft a poetic yet contemporary atmosphere.

The space layout dissolves boundaries between life and art, transforming everyday spaces like living rooms and studies into flexible exhibition areas. It showcases global artisan brands and handmade artworks by artists, fostering dialogue and fusion between Eastern and Western aesthetics. Amid the challenges of hutong renewal, the design team earned neighborhood support through homo sapiens-centric empathy and meticulous communication, establishing the gallery not only as a space where art and life intertwine but also as a new cultural landmark in the hutong.

To date, as China’s first design gallery hidden within Beijing’s hutongs, SunS Living Gallery has hosted over 20 exhibitions and cross-disciplinary events, advocating for curated residential aesthetics. It presents international design classics through a localized lens, connecting global creativity to promote the artisticization of daily life and the integration of art into living. This approach injects fresh narratives into contemporary Eastern aesthetics.
