Peche's original "Gourd Universe" series presents The Loong’s Whisper — a contemporary poetic object inspired by the timeless line from Cao Zhi’s Rhapsody on the Goddess of the Luo River: “Graceful as a startled swan, winding like a soaring dragon.” This lamp transcends mere décor, becoming a modern narrative where light, material, and Eastern elegance converge.



The gourd form, symbolizing “fu lu” (fortune and prosperity), is reimagined with deep cultural resonance. Its distinctive three-chambered silhouette—slender and upright at the top, like the poised leap of a crane; gently cinched in the middle, echoing drifting clouds; and full-bodied at the base, evoking a coiled loong at rest—embodies the harmony of heaven, earth, and humanity, while lending the piece a rhythmic, almost breath-like presence.



Crafted from hand-blown glass, the body fuses emerald green, crimson purple, and amber yellow in organic gradients that mimic the shimmering ripples of dawn light on the Luo River—echoing the fleeting traces of a goddess’s flowing robes. The loong motif, delicately rendered in gold leaf, rejects traditional ferocity in favor of fluid grace. Winding around the vase, its form is subtle and sinuous, capturing the ethereal moment described in the ancient text—claws softened, scales glinting—quietly humming a lyrical presence rather than roaring.



When illuminated, the glass emits a soft, prismatic glow, casting shifting shadows that make the loong appear to glide across walls—a vision of the goddess gliding over water, awakening divine light from the depths. The base, carved from natural beechwood, warm and textured, stands like an ancient stone by the riverbank, grounding this timeless dialogue between past and present.
