The Pingtung King Boat Museum is Taiwan’s first museum dedicated to the King Boat Ceremony. Grounded in the maritime beliefs of Asia, the project begins with the idea that “life is culture, and culture is life”, reimagining boat-building traditions and rituals into a “living museum.” The exterior resembles a king's boat navigating waves, with undulating walls and dragon-eye openings, evoking a spiritual narrative day and night.

The highlight is the 1:1 King Boat replica suspended in the atrium, illuminated by natural light. The architecture fuses light, material, and acoustics with sustainable strategies such as natural ventilation and shading systems. Beyond cultural preservation, the museum has become a hub for education, tourism, and regeneration in Donggang, serving both as a record of the past and a launchpad for future heritage.
