About The Entry

The exhibition was curated by a solo team. The inspiration and motivation stemmed from the designer's long-term research on oracle bone script. The event aimed to combine ancient elements with contemporary cultural practices, conveying the concept of "Old is New." The designer sought to explore new creative possibilities by integrating oracle bone script with contemporary culture, such as the Mazu pilgrimage in Changhua, temple culture, and rural landscapes. Additionally, modern technology like augmented reality (AR) was incorporated to allow the audience to experience the ancient Chinese writing system in a trendy, interactive manner, conveying the new value of traditional culture in modern life.

-Educating while entertaining.: Augmented reality (AR) technology allowed viewers to scan exhibits with their smartphones to see oracle bone script transformed into dynamic animal images. An interactive area featured oracle bone seal stamps, enabling children to combine stamps to create animal patterns and learn different characters. Additionally, T-shirt designs printed with oracle bone script and large chess pieces featuring the script further enhanced the educational and fun aspects of the exhibition.

-OLD IS NEW: The exhibition presented oracle bone characters in a relatable context, making them an excellent introduction to learning Chinese characters. It featured animated representations of the oracle bone script, interactive projections of the script, and 3D paper-cut AR animations along a skywalk. Emphasizing the "OLD IS NEW" spirit, the exhibition combined Changhua's cultural and natural landscapes to recreate a contemporary local flavor through oracle bone script, allowing more people to reconnect with this ancient writing system in a modern, relatable manner. Throughout the exhibition, attendees were encouraged to explore and interact with Changhua's essence through the lens of the oracle bone script.
