The Neiwei Natural Misty Forest, located in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, is an innovative ecological project revitalizing a woodland near Neiweipi Cultural Park and the river. Covering 7,600 square meters, it features a 380-meter pathway that enhances the relationship between urban spaces and nature, creating a misty landscape that improves environmental conditions.
Inspired by the Misty Forest of Shoushan National Nature Park, the design transforms the urban woodland into a multi-sensory ecological retreat. The mist system softens the landscape visually while lowering temperatures and increasing humidity, providing a cooling oasis amidst Kaohsiung's subtropical climate.
The forest is divided into two thematic zones:
1. Southern Zone – A Misty Forest Wildflower Garden by the Neiweipi River, this area includes a winding pathway through a three-tiered planting design featuring resilient grasses and shrubs, a forest canopy with shade-loving ferns, and a riverside meadow that immerses visitors in the water-edge ecosystem.
2. Northern Zone – The Neiwei Misty Forest Grove provides a denser woodland experience with Marabutan and Camphor Trees, rich ground cover from shade-tolerant plants, and a 50 cm-wide pathway designed to preserve tree roots while encouraging exploration.
The mist is harnessed as a dynamic element, utilizing 907 fine-mist nozzles for evaporative cooling. This innovative feature, along with infrared-controlled mist sensors, ensures sustainability while enhancing firefly habitats along the water channel.
The Neiwei Natural Misty Forest is more than a landscape; it represents a pioneering blend of design and ecology, redefining urban-nature connections and inviting visitors into a dreamlike environment in the heart of Kaohsiung.
