About The Entry

The ‘Make a Career Out of Your Creativity: Your Guide to Canada’s Booming Creative Industries’ brochure was created specifically to distribute at Toronto Film School’s 2024 TFS Showcase: Behind the Scenes event. The annual event, hosted every Spring at the Steam Whistle Locomotive Hall in downtown Toronto, caters to prospective students and their families and loved ones. The brochure was designed to showcase for young prospects – and, in some cases, their parents – that the creative industries in Canada can provide a viable pathway towards a fruitful career. Both the brochure, and the event it was distributed at, take aim at the ‘starving artist’ stigma oftentimes attached to a career in the arts by exemplifying that there are, in fact, a host of viable career paths to follow in the screen, graphic design and video game industries – and by showcasing some of the many TFS alumni who are out living them. The Showcase event expanded on this messaging, allowing attendees to roll up their sleeves and participate in a myriad of hands-on workshops designed to peel back the curtain and give prospective students a glimpse into how those industries really work. Attendees participated in writing exercises and acting auditions, practiced filmmaking techniques, played student-made video games, and viewed designs created by our Graphic Design students. They also heard from Toronto Film School’s Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning President Andrew Barnsley (executive producer of Schitt’s Creek), who shared his perspective on the school and how Toronto is leading the way when it comes to the city’s thriving creative sectors.
