Interior Design of Mencius Research Institute

This project is located in an area with gradually increasing in the north-south height difference, Hujia mountain with historical and culture significance as the main axis of landscape, the architectural design seamlessly integrates with the surrounding natural mountain and water features, showing a solemn sense of ceremonial architecture and the free and dynamic layout of traditional Chinese garden. The building covers an area of 44,200 square meters with reasonable and orderly functional layout. The design utilizes the form of textual seals in the space, inscribing the Confucianism that Mencius is admired by people in the whole China. By shaping the light and shadow on the main architecture, the space is endowed with vitality, the subtle changes in light and shadow create a sense of solemn ritual for space and emphasize the spiritual and commemorative essence of the spare. The pure and tranquil environment can produce more resonance and shock with the visitors. The design is dedicated to converting Mencius thoughts to the spatial language, and ideas of Admiration, Dialogue, Edification and Unity of Knowledge and Action are the main line of the overall design for this project, to create a multi-dimensional exhibition space for the Mencius thoughts, so that the visitors, regardless of their ages and backgrounds, can be inspired by the spirit of Mencius thoughts. It is an architectural model that has been realized the integration between Confucian tradition and the spirit of the times. We hope to allow people to fully experience the integration of indoor space and natural environment, the expressive techniques of natural landscape are used in exterior courtyard, while the interior courtyard integrates oriental artistic conception, presenting a sense of dynamic and simple overall spatial aesthetics. The whole design aims to set the tone of exhibition visiting with admiration and respect, dialogue and edification by using stunning visual effects, to realize the creation of new type of institute integrating with Confucian tradition and the spirit of times.
