Simultaneous Resonance is an interactive project exploring the lived experience and societal perception of essential tremor through the lens of art and design. Essential tremor is a condition that often manifests as uncontrollable shaking in the hands, subtly impacting daily life and carrying social implications for those affected. This project seeks to shed light on these effects by engaging viewers in a narrative structured around three distinct stages, each revealing a different emotional aspect of life with tremor.

The project consists of an interactive visual experience presented in a immersive space. Participants are guided through the stages of “Numb - On Standby,” “Escape - Disguise,” and “Relief - Rhythm,” each symbolic of the varying attitudes people with tremors have towards their condition. In Numb - On Standby, viewers are introduced to the visible impact of tremors, showcasing hand movement trajectories collected during patient workshops. This visual track provides an authentic depiction of the physical manifestation of tremor. In the next stage, Escape - Disguise, the experience becomes introspective, portraying the internal struggles of tremor patients who attempt to hide their condition to avoid social stigma. Finally, Relief - Rhythm transforms the tremor’s involuntary movement into an aesthetic rhythm, challenging perceptions by framing the tremor as a form of beauty rather than a limitation.

Through its unique blend of visual storytelling, interactivity, and design, Simultaneous Resonance invites audiences to reflect on power dynamics within societal norms and perceptions. The project offers a nuanced perspective on essential tremor, addressing the complex intersection of visibility, vulnerability, and empowerment. By reimagining tremor movements as rhythmic and aesthetically positive, this work not only raises awareness but also seeks to redefine the narrative around physical conditions often misunderstood by society. The aim is to provoke empathy and inspire deeper contemplation about inclusivity and acceptance in public spaces.
