Storytelling is our core value and strength. Here it was important to show the original inspiration from modern Georgia with a twist of Asia, where the concept of dumplings was invented in the first place. We looked for common features across these two cultures which of course are united by the love for nature. Georgia represents more brutal, dynamic and raw forms. If we talk about the restaurant part, it is represented by the rough open kitchen counter island on the ground floor, the asymmetrical brutalist table-transformer in the lower ground floor, as well as the textured stone-like suspended ceiling features hanging over them, referring us to the mountains and caves. The reason the mountain regions play such a crucial role in Kinkally is because khinkali, just like any dumpling, originates from the mountain regions. In contrast to them is the Asian part of the design - with symmetrical, ideally geometrical benches, delicate metal tables surrounded by beautiful walls with soft angles.

One of the challenges was the layout of the space. Space was very complicated and complex in terms of geometry, which ultimately had to be transformed to perform two functions - the restaurant and the bar. We needed to emphasize and highlight each of those and at the same time make a smooth transition of one space into another. While Bar Kinky is completely made out of stainless steel (which is very different to anything else in Kinkally) and it has a totally unique light design and strategy, the contents of the bar are a logical continuation of Kinkally. For example: the smoothly shaped ceiling in the bar is an alter ego of our rough Georgian stone ceilings in the restaurant. The shape of the bar counter is the same as the shape of the brutal counter island in the open kitchen. This creates a connection between the restaurant and the bar, despite the fact that the mood is completely different. This is our way to refresh the guests impression, not only through the "taste", but also visually.
