Xizhen Animal Village

About The Entry

This is a project for community planning in Xizhen Village, located in Yunlin County. The village is situated on a road that sees a lot of traffic, with frequent visits from tourists. Therefore, the goal of the team is not only to design a rural scene that older generations remember but also to create a landscape park where residents and tourists can relax and play. The team has based its design on the concept of "Local Creation". They intend to recreate the lifestyle of rural villages from the past, using stories about the local people and the land as the main design elements. They have also incorporated traditional architecture from the villages into their design.

The community has not been maintained for many years, resulting in a lot of waste and debris lying around. The team has undertaken a large-scale renovation, clearing the site of weeds and garbage. They have also repurposed abandoned and forgotten corners, revitalizing the barren land. Additionally, several drought-resistant kudzu trees have been planted, not only making the community more aesthetically pleasing but also greening the environment.

Upon entering the village, the team utilized wood to repair the red brick houses, preserving the traditional rural red brick building materials while also improving the overall appearance. Additionally, statues and animal installations were placed around the entrance to create a welcoming and child-friendly environment, making it more eye-catching. The "Monkey's Place" park is a combination of traditional building materials such as red bricks, wood, and stone, along with installation art in the form of several monkeys. This park recreates the story of an ancestor who hunted monkeys and trained them to sell medicinal ointment. With a variety of landscape plants and a heart-shaped pond, the Monkey's Place Park is a pleasant and warm resting place. Moreover, many houses in the community are equipped with animal art installations depicting geese, squirrels, crocodiles, giraffes, rabbits, cows, and more. These installations creatively tell the historical memories of the village, creating an animal art village.
